St. Martin de Porres has a diversified funding strategy. We receive
funds from corporate and foundation grants, individual donors,
parishes and churches, and speaking fees.

Weekly staff meetings are held for the purpose of evaluation,
review, clarification of policies, and other operational matters.
House meetings for residents are also held weekly. The shelter posts
and observes a strictly defined grievance procedure whereby any
resident may present her views to the staff, President, Executive
Director, or a committee of members of the Board. Residents are also
free to speak to staff members personlly on a less formal basis and
often do so.
A private consultant visits St. Martin de Porres annually as a
volunteer and submits a critical evaluation of our program and our
use of staff and volunteers. This has been an invaluable source of
strength to the shelter. The shelter facility is regularly inspected
for health and structural safety. Inspectors from the Department of
Health visit the shelter twice a year and the Chicago Fire
Department inspects annually.
A professional audit is completed each year. A daily ledger of
all contributions and expenses is kept. An accountability letter is
written to any funding source at the close of the year or upon
reasonable request; this letter explains in detail the uses and
results of grant funds.
